Robert White
St. Andrews native and first President of the PGA of America Robert White was not a prolific course designer, but he was notable for the changes he helped propel in the science of golf course management. White is credited with bringing the principles of crop agriculture to turf management on the golf course. As a result of his scientific experience and his feel for the game, he built some of the best putting greens in golf. In fact his greens were so well-respected that when Dwight D. Eisenhower wanted a putting green built at the White House, White oversaw the design.
